About Jagruti's Rehabilitation Centre in Chennai

Written & Medically Reviewed By Dr. Vijay Anand, Consultant Psychiatrist (MBBS, DPM) with over 15+ years of experience
Last Updated: 15 May 2026

Jagruti has been serving families across India for over 18 years. Today, we operate two full-fledged rehabilitation centres in Chennai: one in Anna Nagar and another in T. Nagar.

The Anna Nagar centre is located at 944, 17th Main Road, Sector H, Thirumoolar Colony. It is designed for residential inpatient care with dedicated detox rooms, therapy spaces, and a calm, home-like environment. The T. Nagar centre, at 15, Venkataraman Street, with ample capacity is a more recent addition and easily accessible from central and south Chennai, with a focus on outpatient programmes and family counselling.

At both centres, we offer a combined capacity that allows us to admit patients quickly, without waiting lists that stretch for weeks. Each centre is staffed by psychiatrists who work on-site daily and are not visiting consultants. Psychologists, addiction counsellors, and 24/7 nursing teams are present round the clock.

Looking for a Rehabilitation Centre in Chennai?

If you're searching for a rehabilitation centre in Chennai, you've probably visited a few or heard promises that didn't last. And if you're looking for one that actually understands what families go through, this is where Jagruti comes in.

Few treat both addiction & mental illness

A 2024 multicenter study across India confirmed that alcohol remains the most common substance of dependence among patients needing integrated rehab care. [1] More than half the patients admitted to our rehab centres in Chennai have dual diagnosis - alcohol or drug dependence alongside depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or trauma.

You will not be left outside the room

Weekly family therapy sessions are part of the programme, and not an optional extra. Written clinical updates go to families every week. We do not hide behind confidentiality rules to keep you guessing. And if you live in Anna Nagar, T. Nagar, or anywhere else in Chennai, you can visit during scheduled hours without travelling for hours.

Costs are explained before you decide.

The price you see are the rates you pay. No surprise charges for “special counselling” or “emergency observation.” Our admission team in Chennai will give you a complete breakdown as per room type, duration, medical fees, therapy charges before you sign anything.

You stay close to the people who matter.

Rehab inside Chennai means your family stays part of your journey and is not a phone call away, but only a short drive away. Weekly visits, therapy together, and knowing your loved ones are nearby can make recovery feel less isolating.

Who we have already helped in Chennai

We have helped patients from Anna Nagar, T. Nagar, Adyar, Velachery, Tambaram, Kilpauk, Nungambakkam, and surrounding districts like Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram. Working professionals from OMR and GST Road, retired government employees, college students, and families who carried the weight alone for years before they called.

Not sure where to begin? Call us and we will help you decide what support your loved one needs.

Conditions We Treat at Our Centre

According to the AIIMS-NDDTC National Survey, only 1 in 10 people with substance use disorders in India receive treatment, highlighting the importance of accessible & personalized rehabilitation services. [2]. At our rehabilitation centre, we provide a full range of de-addiction treatments for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Each person's history, substance use pattern, and psychological state is assessed before any programme begins.

Addiction & substance abuse - admitted regularly at our Anna Nagar and T. Nagar centres:

  • Alcohol addiction
  • Drug addiction (Heroin, Cocaine, MDMA, etc.)
  • Cannabis and marijuana abuse
  • Prescription drug misuse
  • Inhalant addiction
  • Nicotine / tobacco addiction
  • Dual diagnosis (addiction alongside mental illness)
  • Relapse prevention and aftercare programmes

Our other services (mental health and neurological conditions):

Many families searching for a de-addiction centre in Chennai do not realise that untreated depression or anxiety often fuels relapse. That is why every patient at Jagruti Chennai receives a full psychiatric evaluation and not just a detox plan.

Our Treatment Programmes in Chennai

Our Chennai rehabilitation centres run structured, psychiatrist-led programmes. The specific programme depends on the person's medical stability, substance use history, and family support at home.

Residential/Inpatient Treatment Programs

Residential/Inpatient Treatment Programs

28-day, 60-day, or 90-day tracks. The patient stays at the centre full-time, with 24/7 medical and nursing support.

For patients who have both addiction and a mental health condition (depression, bipolar, anxiety, trauma). Both are treated in parallel, by the same psychiatric team at our residential rehabilitation centres.
Short-term stabilisation

Short-term stabilisation

Long-term residential care

Long-term residential care

90+ days for patients with repeated relapses or complex co-morbidities.

The First 48 hours at Our Chennai Centre - What Actually Happens

No two admissions are identical, but the sequence below reflects what most families experience when they first arrive at our Chennai centre. Most patients arrive between 10am and 6pm, usually with a family member. Here is how it typically unfolds:

Day 1, first 2 hours:

The admission coordinator and a nurse take basic vitals. The on-call psychiatrist does a brief assessment and not a full diagnosis yet, but enough to decide if medical detox needs to start immediately. Families are asked to stay during this time and a simple consent form is signed.

Day 1, evening:

The patient is assigned a room (standard sharing or single, depending on availability and clinical need). Dinner is served in the common dining area. The nursing team does a second round of observations. For alcohol or benzodiazepine withdrawal, medication is given by 9pm. The psychiatrist reviews the plan before leaving for the day.

Day 2, morning:

A full physical and psychiatric assessment is completed by 11am. Blood work (if needed) is sent to a local lab. The patient meets their primary counsellor for the first time. There is a 30-minute conversation, not therapy yet. Family members receive a verbal update and a written summary.

Day 2, afternoon and evening:

The patient joins their first group session (orientation and psychoeducation). Medication is adjusted if withdrawal symptoms appear. By the end of day 2, a personalized treatment plan is shared with the family including estimated duration, therapy schedule, and family visit days.

Admission process - how to start:

Anyone can call our Chennai admission team at +91 9822207761 (24x7 available). Our executive will ask a few basic questions. If admission is decided, the patient can come directly to our addiction recovery centres in Chennai. For emergencies, an ambulance can be arranged from anywhere within Chennai.

Aftercare & Follow-up in Chennai

Discharge is not the end of our work together. Every patient leaving our Chennai centre receives a detailed relapse prevention plan and we stay actively involved afterwards.

The Jagruti follow-up schedule:

Our team makes follow-up calls at 30, 60, and 90-days post-discharge to check on medication compliance, identify early warning signs, and adjust the plan if needed. Families can reach the same clinical team during this period.

Outpatient support in Chennai:

Patients stepping down from residential care can continue individual therapy and psychiatrist consultations at our rehabs in Chennai. We also coordinate with external counsellors if the family prefers a location closer to home.

Local recovery support groups:

Chennai has a strong recovery community. Alcoholics Anonymous runs over 200 groups across the city with at least 10,000 members [3] . Also, Narcotics Anonymous has a dedicated Tamil Nadu helpline (+91 78457 25778) [4] along with regular meetings throughout the region. These free, peer-led groups provide ongoing fellowship and many of our discharged patients also attend these weekly meetings.

Our rehabilitation centre in Chennai does not close its doors after your loved one is discharged.

Why Families in Chennai Seek Private Rehabilitation Support

While Tamil Nadu has the lowest prevalence of drug use in India, alcohol dependence remains a significant challenge in the Chennai region [5]. A 2024 study found that nearly one in six male alcohol consumers (16.9%) in the Chengalpattu district suffers from alcohol dependence [6]. Between March and June 2025 alone, government de-addiction centres in Chennai treated over 8,900 patients - a clear sign that the need for a reliable rehabilitation centre in Chennai is urgent .

Chennai has several government-run de-addiction options, but they come with their own limitations. The Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Kilpauk offers de-addiction outpatient services, and the Tamil Nadu State Mental Health Helpline (104) is available 24/7 in Tamil and English. [7] .However, these facilities often face overcrowding and long waiting periods. Securing a bed for residential care can take weeks, and most families do not have this much time.

That is why a trusted professional de-addiction centre in Chennai matters. At Jagruti, we provide immediate admission, medical detox, dual diagnosis treatment, and round-the-clock psychiatric support - without waiting lists.

If you are searching for the best rehab centres in Chennai with private, structured care, we are here.

Government resources for immediate support:

  • Tamil Nadu State Mental Health Helpline: 104 (24/7, toll-free)
  • Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Kilpauk - for initial assessment
  • Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Helpline: 14446 (National De-addiction Helpline)
  • NIMHANS Mental Health Helpline (India's most recognised mental health authority): 080-46110007 (24/7, national)
